This course covers the basic tasks, objectives, legal and social responsibilities of a steward.
Course Overview
This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to work as a steward in the Active Leisure and Learning sector. This may include events such as sports, music festivals, concerts, parades, carnivals and the Olympics.
Learners gaining this qualification will know how to prepare for events, control entry and exit of customers, identify and deal with crowd problems and respond to emergencies.
The learner should be able to recognise the following types of potential crowd problems:
- Unexpected crowd movements
- Local overcrowding
- Overcapacity
- Distress
- Separation of individuals and groups
- Trespass into unauthorised areas
- Removing people and objects

Be able to outline the following procedures that stewards are asked to carry out:
- Being visible to the crowd
- Warning/reassuring people
- Containing a crowd

Entry Requirements
There are no prerequisites for this qualification however It is advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.
Age ranges
This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 and above.

The qualification is suitable for learners in England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

The qualification is made up of four mandatory units and is internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence.
